Abstract

In this paper bookbinding strength is determined
by measuring the tensile breaking force on Page
Pull Tester to examine the impact of used binding
technique on binding strength of the product.
Two techniques, double fan and perfect binding
technique (spine roughing with the addition of
gauze strip) are investigated.
Obtained result are compared with the FOGRA
institute`s guidelines number 71.006, ranked and
classified, but also compared mutually with their
qualitative and quantitative analyse in order to
define which used technique will produce more
firmer and better quality book blocks, cause more
uniform adhesive application across whole book
spine and ensure repeatability of the process.
Bonding technique that covers a larger number
of all those above listed requirements and shows
a higher tensile strength, is going to be used
in further research of adhesive joints – during
investigation of other parameters affecting the
adhesion quality and the strength of the book
block in general.
