Abstract

The oxidation of 1-allyluracil (I) and 1-allylthymine (II) by the
silver acetate-iodine method into the corresponding 1-(2,3-dihydroxypropyl)
derivatives (III) and (IV) was described: The selective
tritylation of the glycol (IV) into 1-(3-0-triphenylmethyl-2,3-dihydroxypropyl)
thymine (X) made feasible the synthesis of 1-(2,3-
-dihydroxypropyl)thymine-2'-phosphate as barium salt (XVII) and
thymidylyl (5'-+2')-1-(2,3-dihydroxypropyl)-thymine as ammonium
salt (XXII).
