Abstract

On 30 March 1990 the Mediterranean Maritime Arbitration Association was founded in Genoa, Italy. Its object is to promote the study, development, legislation and practice of maritime arbitration in the Mediterranean, to coordinate the existing centers and maritime arbitrators and to establish relationships with other institutions of similar purposes, to publish and/or circulate information, etc.
One of the intentions of its founders is to archive a position where greater number of international maritime arbitral proceedings, connected to the Mediterranean countries, are instituted before and arbitration tribunal in the Mediterranean area. This can be achieved if parties from Mediterranean countries insert in their contracts an arbitration clause providing for Mediterranean arbitration tribunal. This is a hard, but the only way to put this idea into practice.
