Abstract

A 4-year old mastiff presented with reduced appetite, depression, vomiting and moderate tympanic abdominal distension. Severe pneumoperitoneum was detected radiographically. The cause of the pneumoperitoneum was a small perforation in the caudal part of the gastric fundus, secondary to gastric ulceration. Diagnosis of the pneumoperitoneum was confirmed with contrast radiography of the stomach and small intestine.Atthetimeofsurgery, anunbordered perforation about 1 cm in diameter, was found between the major and minor stomach curvature. Histopathological examination identified transmural pyogranulomatous gastritis.
