Abstract

Mineral and geothermal water of Croatia represents an extremely important natural resource of the Republic of Croatia, which needs to devote much more attention and research and especially to finding optimal forms of use primarily in the economy, energy, health and tourism. The use of this renewable resource needs to be continuously monitored in view of the expected economic development and the effects that can be achieved by taking into account that the geothermal gradients of Croatian space are considerably higher than the European average. Given the raw potentials and demands for higher amounts of mineral raw materials, Varaždin County has a prospect of development on its own resources. However, existing mineral resources, though not numerous, have been partially explored, their quantity, quality and complete application are unknown. The aim of this paper is to draw attention to the spectrum of mineral resource utilization of geothermal water, which could be considerably wider than it has been, so it is necessary to carry out regional exploration of mineral raw materials with the aim of extracting the best quality raw materials and examining the possibilities of their application.
