Abstract

The effect of Agritenax photoselective nets in preventing the attack of the oriental fruit moth and the peach twig borer was investigated during the vegetation season in 2015 in the peach orchard cv. 'Suncrest' in the Čakovec area. Three Agritenax photoselective nets were the same in mesh size (2.4 x 4.8 mm) but in different colors (white, red and yellow), while the fourth net had a smaller mesh size (0.9 x 1.0 mm) and was white (Stop Drosophila Normal). The nets were set up randomly in three repetitions and the uncovered part of the orchard was used as a control. Each repetition contained a pheromone trap (Csalomon®) and the presence of pests was recorded on a weekly basis. During the monitoring period a highly significant reduction of moth catches on pheromone traps was observed under different types of nets in comparison to the unprotected control. The study showed that photoselective nets have been effective in reducing the number of oriental fruit moth and the peach twig borer, and the application of white Agritenax photoselective net is recommended in peach pests protection.
