Abstract

The elderly population is steadily increasing, as is the proportion of elderly patients with chronic kidney disease. It is known that kidney transplantation is the best method of renal replacement therapy, has the best survival results and has a significant effect on improving the quality of life. Renal transplantation in the elderly has also shown better survival rate. In this group of patients, through pretransplant evaluation is needed due to accompanying comorbidities, especially for cardiovascular and malignant diseases. Changes in immunity, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of drugs occur with aging and need to be known in order to determine an optimal immunosuppressive protocol. Clinical Hospital Center Rijeka has many years of experience with kidney transplantation in elderly recipients.
