Abstract

As life quality in cities has become an issue because of environmental pollution, cycling is gaining popularity as a utilitarian mode of transportation. Cycling brings certain environmental and health-related benefits. It limits the consumption of fossil fuels, causes less noise pollution and it is fluid, reliable and affordable transport mean. But for cycling to develop into a suitable form of transportation, it is necessary to ensure smooth and uninterrupted mobility of cyclists by building safe, connected and obstacle-free infrastructure. It is desirable to provide segregated cycling paths as they allow maximum mobility and at the same time provide safety during the trip. According to the statistics stated in "Zagreb in numbers", 415 kilometres of bicycle paths/lanes have been built in the city of Zagreb. However, according to thorough measurements carried out in 2016 by the Cyclists' Union, Zagreb has only 168 kilometres of bike paths/lanes. In addition to the insufficiently built cycling infrastructure, in most cases, it was not planned to create an integrated network in which users can switch from one transportation mode to another. The issue of planned and constructed cycling infrastructure will be presented on the examples of Gajeva Street in Zagreb city and GG1 Street in Jastrebarsko city.
