Abstract

The paper deals with the literary opus of Vladimir Mažuranić, who published several essays and poems and one play in the Vienac magazine in the 1870’s and the 1880’s. In 1883 he also wrote a play titled Count Ivan, which won an award from Matica hrvatska. Mažuranić wrote about women’s issues (education, legal rights etc.) and Russian literature (Turgenev). In 1884 he wrote a comedy about anarchism, which was a major
social and political topic at that time. It is interesting to notice that Mažuranić wrote this comedy during the Zagreb anarchists’ trial which attracted major public attention.
