Abstract

Gastrointestinal endoscopy became irreplaceable in diagnosis and treatment of common gastrointestinal conditions in adults and children. Despite of the technical similarities, great differences exist which prompt the need for education of pediatric endoscopists. Interventional gastroenterology requires additional education and skills and bears the risks that need to be recognized. Developement og pediatric endoscopes opened the possibilities to endoscopic diagnostic and interventions in neonatal patients, not weighing more than few kilos. Nonetheless, there are several technical limits, especially in interventional methods.
