Abstract

The traditional approach to education views the school as a “place to learn”. Teachers and students who participate in this process of acquiring knowledge are often positioned in opposition; the teacher, who through his active role determines the ways and contents of learning, and student who adopts the knowledge. The same paradigm applies to sports, where, especially when it comes to acquiring skills, all power is put into the hands of coaches. Parents’ role is often neglected or reduced to purely material and operational support, which includes transport and financial support. By redefining their role in modern society, the question of the schools’ autonomy, as an institution, was raised which was reflected in the parents’ role throughout the sports „education„ of young athletes. The extent to which parents can help / hinder the development of athletes, what is the role of the coach in this new relationship, how is it defined and what are the responsibilities of each participant in this process is discussed in the paper.
