Abstract
Bono Zvonimir Šagi is one of the most prominent post-Vatican II theologians
and proponents of the Council ideas, whose endeavour can be studied in the
context of the overall work of Kršćanska sadašnjost. Although he did not pursue
academic theology, from the earliest days of his theological education he regularly
wrote in numerous published works, mainly in the editions and periodicals
published by KS. His frequent and recognizable form of writing is columnistic and
essayistic in nature.
As one of the most consistent authors of the Christian family magazine Kana,
for which he wrote 334 articles over almost four decades, his thinking is entirely
consistent with the title of Kana’s most significant column "The Question of the the Present Moment". This contextual quality is in fact a fundamental aim of Šagi’s
theological work. For Šagi, theology is a discourse about God which should be,
above all, as clear as possible in an effort to be proclaimed in specific concrete
moments and social realities. The authors mainly attempt to present Šagi’s vision
of the Church ad intra and ad extra based on the entirety of his columns in Kana, to
define the main theological features and themes and to identify foundations, and
development of his thought. The authors identify as a common thread in Šagi’s
thought the proposal he offers as a modus vivendi of the Church and Christianity
in the contemporary world, of the Church and society: dialogue in truth, justice,
and love – dialogue as a means of building a "civilization of love" and a "universal
brotherhood" for universal peace.
