Abstract

This paper will present the life of Vasco da Gama. The first chapter will demonstrate the significance of geographical discoveries, as well as Portugal’s role in them. The second chapter will address the early life of Vasco da Gama, his origins, birthplace, education, commitment to the sea. The following chapter and its subchapters will discuss his venture – the first journey to India, the preparations for the journey, ships and the return. The fifth and the sixth chapter will discuss the second and the third journey and all aspects included in these journies. The last chapter before the conclusion is dedicated to his legacy and death, and to the effects of his undertaking, as well as today’s point of view of those effects.
