Abstract

Authors have sent questioners to gather informations about health knowledge, family and social situations, opinion about screening to 800 women. Half of them have actually taken part in a breast screening program and half of them did not, even they were invited to. 482 (60%) of questioners were returned. Among those who participated in screening 350 (87,5%), and among those who did not take part, only 132 (33%) returned the form. “Not participating†group had lover education level, and had bad general health knowledge level. There was much higher percent of participation among those who had a positive family history of breast cancer, tried to live a health conscious life and those who live in small villages.Conclusions: to increase participation in screening up to 70% - which regarded to be optimal - health education, providing widespread, readily available, clear, plain language information about screening is very important.
