Abstract

Investments in the hotel industry are the prerogative for its development. Under the circumstances of limited supply of capital at the domestic financial market the solution is often sought in attracting foreign direct investments (FDI). The aim of this paper is to examine the expert opinion on the impact of investments into upgrading the accommodation standards onto the business success in the hotel industry, differences in the business performance between hotels in domestic and foreign ownership, foreign investors' motives, and importance of tax policies in attracting DFI in the hotel industry. For the purpose of this study several research instruments were used: questionnaire, depth interview, study of literature and statistical data available. The research showed that the expert opinion on the importance of domestic and foreign investments is identical to findings of secondary research. Some deviations have shown in the perception of the main motives of foreign investors and in assessment of the significance of tax policy in attracting FDI. Possible explanation for the research results may be the hardly accessible and non-transparent data as well as limitations resulting from longitudinal analysis.
