Abstract

For many years the lung has been considered not applicable for ultrasound. It has been recently shown that lung ultrasound represents a useful tool for the evaluation of many pulmonary conditions especially in children. Children have thin thorax and be-cause pulmonary lesions tend to reach pleura it is a method of choice. Lung ultrasound is usually performed beside patient’s bed. Method was developed from clinicians to clinicans. There are some distinct changes (artefacts) on lung ultrasound that have to be recognised. Scanning have to be systematic, always in the same order, to provide measurable and exact information about the lung pathology. Lung ultrasound is suitable for follow up and early detection of disease complication. Lung ultrasound can easily be incorporated in diagnostic algorithm to reduce X - ray exposure. Clinical use of lung ultrasound may lead to faster diagnosis and management leading to improved patient outcomes.
