(Forgotten) Women Radio Dramatists of Dramatic Times – Z. Dirnbach, I. Vrkljan, V. Krmpotić

Abstract
In her paper the author focuses on the radio dramatic works of three Croatian writers/playwrights: Zora Dirnbach (1929–2019), Irena Vrkljan (1930–2021) and Vesna Krmpotić (1932–2018). Their writing activity was very important for the Croatian radio production of the second half of the 20th century. Individually, each of these authors deserves a specific and more detailed approch and interpretation, all the more so since – as the author of the article claims – they have not been given enough attention so far. Dirnbach (The Chess Game), Vrkljan (Letters for a Geographical Map) and Krmpotić (The Queen’s Well) were active in Croatian radio drama production from the end of the fifties until the eighties of the last century, i.e. in a politically, ideologically and culturally very dinamic and turbulent period in the history of the Republic of Croatia as a part of the former Yugoslavia (SFRY). Vrkljan and Krmpotić also belonged to a very prominent group of Croatian writers associated with the literary journal Krugovi (Circles, 1952–1958). All three authors thematically and formally connect or combine the Croatian cultural and historical space with the components of foreign cultures and literary or stylistic influences (mainly postmodernism); therefore, their texts take on the caracteristics of cosmopolitan and universal. Moreover, all three authors greatly participated in the affirmation of Croatian (radio)drama and culture in Europe.
