Abstract

The paper presents the process of upgrading a Mac Pro (Apple Inc., USA) computer to be reused by changing basic components and preparing it for processing audio and video materials. The life cycle of technical and electronic products is getting shorter and as a result, the amount of EE waste (electrical and electronic waste) is increasing, which significantly endangers the environment. By analyzing the hardware and upgrading elements for processing computer information, measurements (benchmarks) were carried out. The results show that the Mac Pro computer, regardless of its age, is capable of handling demanding processes that include the editing of multimedia materials. The multimedia workstation is enabled for processing the demanding tasks of audio and video editing, by the successful upgrading of its components. Concepts of recycling, reuse, and basic regulations related to EE waste are presented and explained. The use of upgraded computers reduces the production of EE waste, and actively contributes to the preservation of the environment.
