Abstract

The idea of smart cities ensures significant urban development through the application of innovative technological solutions. The use of various devices with information and communication technologies changes the way individuals interact with the environment, which leads to innovative approaches to modern technologies. Such technology aims to provide new services to strengthen the infrastructure, utilize natural energy resources and improve the quality of life. To respond to the growing urbanization process and the consequent demand for energy, new approaches are needed to implement new models of establishing more energy-efficient cities. University campuses face similar problems, so this paper focuses on the concept of a smart university campus and how drone technology can be used for its planning. The paper presents the complete process of aerial photography, together with the necessary preparation and post-processing steps. It describes the creation of a three-dimensional model of the observed campus and how to perform an analysis of the solar potential with the created model, which establishes an important tool in achieving energy balance in the campus area.
