Abstract

Heda Festini writes about sport in the article “Slobodno vrijeme i rekreativni šport” (“Free Time and Sport as Recreation”), where she identified a crisis of contemporary sport. Her analysis is based on Vladimir Janković’s concept of free time and the concepts of “elitism” and “olympism”. Festini shows that today’s sport is part of a broader social crisis that endangers culture in general and is based in global political tendencies. In her problematization of politics and sport, Festini references her analysis of Dewey’s “social” liberalism. The goal of this paper is to connect Festini’s thoughts on Dewey’s “social” liberalism and her criticism of sport. With that we will try to round up her critical thoughts on neoliberal politics, that are related to the crisis of culture and sport.
