Abstract
Hippeastrum is a genus of bulbous perennial plants characterized by large flowers of various colours and is most often found on the market in the autumn-winter period. Large bulbs are sold separately, alone or already planted in decorative containers as a potted plant and as a flower species for cutting. The aim of this paper is to present the taxonomic affiliation and origin of Hippeastrum, describe its morphologically, and present the method of preparing bulbs, growing potted plants and inflorescences for cutting, preparing for sale, and methods of maintenance in home conditions with the aim of obtaining repeated flowering. Amaryllis, Hippeastrum Herb., belongs to the Amaryllidaceae family, was created by crossing several species within the genus, originating from Brazil. Based on the literature, the production of bulbs is presented in which, after a dormant period, it is necessary to ensure temperatures above 20 ⁰C, and relative air humidity in the production area higher than 60% can cause diseases in production.
