SEVERAL ADDITIONS FROM THE FOLK TRADITIONS OF VINODOL - Wailing, Candle Circles and Wise Expressions

Abstract
The author, in her own Grižane chakavian dialect, writes three articles from the popular traditions of the Vinodol region, conceptually wider than today's geo graphical term of the Vinodol valley. The old customs of lamenting and wailing, wailers, for the dead in the past were common throughout Vinodol. Women, both old and young would sometimes wail loudly. Members of the family, who have lost loved ones, as well as the neighbours, would wail. The article provides two examples of wailing for husbands. The second part of the article is about the types of wax candles, which were very long and shaped into a rectangular form. They are worn at a blessing and the women always had them with them.
