Abstract

A pluriperspective and comparative analysis of the Ragusan segment of the life and work of William Robinson, a gunner in the service of the Dubrovnik Republic, merchant and English consul, has helped portray a well-integrated nonnoble foreigner, and at the same time complemented the picture of the city in a pivotal period, end of the "Golden Age" and the beginning of one of the crises. Attention has been drawn to the remarkable research potential of the State Archives in Dubrovnik and its most diverse archival materials that have been extensively used in this article.
