Abstract

The existence of a good regulatory framework is one of the basic prerequisites of exercising human, and thus children's, rights in everyday life. Quality legal regulations are an important basis for the construction of an effective and comprehensive system for the protection of children's rights and interests. As an independent body, the ombudsman for children participates in proceedings prior to the adoption of regulations and encourages adoption and amendments of laws and regulations in the field of children's rights and child protection. Owing to her actions, numerous positive changes to the legal system have been introduced in certain fields, but there are still numerous problems and difficulties which need to be resolved in order to attain an adequate level of protection of children's rights. The article presents the activities of the Office of the Ombudsman for Children related to the improvement of regulations, protection of children in certain areas of life, as well as of the protection of children pertaining to certain groups.
