Abstract
An overview is given of research conducted by the authors and their associates over the past several years, with the focus on meeting sustainability criteria in the field of reinforced concrete, regarded as material that is used for making more durable reinforced-concrete structures. The foundations of sustainability lie in three basic assumptions, which are presented in great detail in this paper: preservation of natural resources, reduction of CO2 emissions, and the design, construction and maintenance of more durable reinforced-concrete structures.
