Abstract
The milk recording is an integral part of animal recording, which refers to dairy animals (cattle, sheep and goats). During milk recording production data of dairy animals that are under selection are collected. Collected production data together with pedigree information are basis for estimation of breeding value and selection. In addition, the results of milk recording are the basis for successful management of dairy herd. According to the ICAR guidelines, for milk recording, A4 method is reference one. Other methods are permitted but the obtained results must be mathematically corrected to the reference method. What will be the cost of milk recording per cow per year largely depends on the chosen method of milk recording. According to the Croatian Agricultural Agency (HPA, 2011.) milk recording in the Croatia occurs in accordance with alternative methods, that is AT4 and BT4. Milk recording implies labour costs of HPA control assistants that are the travel costs and the cost of salaries, as well as the costs of analysis of milk samples. The cost price of milk recording per cow in accordance with the AT4 method in Simmental cows is 478.78 kn (140.82 kg of milk), and in Holstein cows is 534.63 kn (157.24 kg milk). Implementation of milk recording according BT4 method includes, in relation to the implementation of the method in accordance with the AT4, a 50% reduction in salaries cost control assistants. The cost price of milk recording per cow in accordance with the BT4 method in Simmental cattle is 436.08 kn (128.26 kg of milk), and in Holstein cattle is 486.95 kn (143.22 kg milk). In Croatia part of the cost price paid by the producer is about 20%.
