Sažetak

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is generaly accepted treatment
for relief of pain. The mechanism of action iz not clearly defined but majority
of authors support the central mechanism theory.
The results presented in the li.teratUire va·ry from not significant better effect than
placebo until 95°/o succeful ana.lgesic effect.
In the Department of Rheumatology, KBC Rebro we have evaluted the benefits
of TENS in patients with low back pain and acute cervical syndrome which were
treated wi.th conventional method.
In patients with low back pain a succeful analgesic effect was obtained in 63°/o
of cases. In acute cervical syndrome TENS influence the decreased consumption of
analgetics and increases the mobility of cervical spine which could be important
especially i·n the patients with contra.indications concerning analgetics.
