Sažetak

Public health emerged and started to grow within today Croatia in the first half of the 20th century and one of the pioneers in the area was Dr Josip Škarić. This paper portrays Dr Josip Škarić’s life and work. Among other relevant sources of information, his autobiography was also used. Public health achievements in the fi rst half of the 20th century in today Croatia, as well as in Dalmatia are respectable and deserve special attention by expert circles.
