Sažetak

We have examined the activity of a part of the hypothalamic pituitary axis by determining the response of TSH and PRL to TRH stimulation and by comparing basal values of TSH with the values of thyroid hormones in the blood of CRF patients. We have obtained significantly lowered concentrations of total and free thyroid hormones, but without significant correlation with TSH level, which, although significantly higher than in the control group, still remained within the normal range. This suggests a weaker pituitary sensitivity to the inhibitory action of T4 and T3. In the TRH test, the TSH response did not differ from the control group, showing preserved pituitary sensitivity to TRH stimulation. Basal PRL and the response to TRH was pathological (weakened), suggesting the impaired regulation of prolaction secretion. The secretion of TSH and PRL remained independent in the patients with CRF as well as in the healthy population.
