Sažetak
Pathological conditions in the chest in children are pneumothorax and pleural effusions: parapneumonic effusions, chylothorax, hematothorax and malignant effusions. All these conditions require prompt diagnosis and treatment. The most common pathological content in the chest in children is pneumothorax. It usually occurs spontaneously, due to the penetration of air between two layers of the pleura. Parapneumonic effusion occurs as a complication of pneumonia, and treatment consists of antibiotic therapy, sometimes pleural drainage and intrapleural fibrinolytic therapy. Chylous effusion is rare in children, and is caused by the accumulation of chylous content in the pleural cavity. In all these conditions, symptoms can range from subtle to life-threatening.
