Towards an Integral Paradigm of Artificial Intelligence: Anthropological, Ethical, and Social Challenges in the Use of AI in Line with Antiqua et nova

Sažetak
The development and application of artificial intelligence raises numerous anthropological and ethical challenges which are predominantly conditioned by the blurring of the boundaries between human and artificial intelligence, as well as the difficulty of determining moral responsibility in the course of the development and application of AI. The paper analyses the document Antiqua et nova. The Note on the relationship between artificial and human intelligence, issued by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith and the Dicastery for the Culture and Education from a theological perspective, pointing to elements of the Christian anthropological vision which offer a critique of the reductionist understanding of human intelligence and, consequently, of the human person within a technocratic paradigm. At the ethical level, which follows from the vision presented, the Note argues for the development of artificial intelligence within the framework of algorethics and points to the impossibility of delegating moral responsibility to machines. The need for an integral approach is emphasised, both to the human person and to society, acknowledging mutual relationships of interdependence, while relying on an ethic of responsibility.
