Sažetak
Objective. Evaluation of diagnostic value of Interleukin-6 (IL-6) and C-reactive protein (CRP) from the um-bilical cord blood in recognition of early newborn’s infection (ENI) in relation to the microbiological findings. Methods. In retrospective investigation were included 120 newborns, gestational age 37–42 weeks, birth weight <2500 grams. We made two groups: first, examined group, newborns with microbiological proof of ENI (n=38), and second, control group, newborns without ENI (n=82). Values of IL-6 and CRP from umbilical cord blood and microbiological findings were analyzed. Results. Median value of IL-6 in the first group was 49 pg/mL and in the second group 9,7 pg/mL with significant difference between these two groups (P<0,0001). Sensitivity of IL-6 was 79 % and specificity 96%. Median value of CRP in the first group was 3,5 mg/L, and in the control group 2,8 mg/L with no significant difference between groups. (P=0,997). Sensitivity of CRP was 21% and specificity 85%. Conclusion. Diagnostic value of IL-6 in recognition of ENI is remarkable, while CPR has limited importance.
