The impact of Positive psychology programme implementation on fourth grade elementary school pupil optimism and classroom environment

Abstract

The aim of the study was to assess the influence of positive psychology program on fourth grade students’ optimism and classroom climate in primary school. Sample included 125 pupils from three primary schools in Zagreb. Students attended six classes, randomly divided in two groups; experimental (N=62) and control group (N=63). The positive psychology program was conducted in the experimental group once a week during three months. In control group usually activities were performed. Before and after conducting
a program all the participants have been tested with questionnaires My classroom for assessing classroom climate and The children’s attributional style questionnaire for assessing optimism and pessimism. Several two way analysis of variance with repeated measures on one factor were performed. The results showed positive effects of the program on the increase of the level of optimism. Statistically significant difference was not found in any of the dimensions of classroom climate.
