Sažetak

The article presents the results of the research in the values of the civil society in Croatia. The research is part of the international research project of CIVICUS - Index of civili society.
Values are on of the central themes of contemporary debates on civil society. Civil society is a value in itself because in its activities it advocates and promotes special values. Values of civil society are connected with the level of the social capital in particular societies. The results of the research in the role of the organisation of civil society, in the promotion of tolerance, human rights, original equality and sustainable development are exposed. The contribution of the organisations of civil society in this area is recognizable. The organisations of civil society contribute to cultural diversity and tolerance.
The organisations of civil society in Croatia face problems with transparent operation and responsible committment to their work by all interested participants. Finally, the author indicates there are slow positive changes and very narrow circles of younger and educated citizens who are more open to postmaterialistic values on which civil society rests.
