Abstract

Demographic transition in the Socialist Republic of Croatia is above the Yugoslav average. This has been confirmed by a comparative analysis of natural demographic change and the latest census result. Areas with high concentrations of population have been established as well as a marked polarization into areas of exodus and areas of immigration. It has futher been established that urban settlements register as a rule higher bitrh rates than rural ones, that the Socijalist Republic of Croatia is approaching zero population growth and a negative migration balance, which poses economic, social and demographic problems.
