Abstract

In a group of 358 randomly chosen examinees the correlation between the state of the dentures in patients coming to the Institute for Fixed Prosthetics for their first examinations and certain parameters influencing a wide spectrum of indications has been studied according to sex and age groups. The inquiry consisted of two parts. First a questionnaire was filled in by the examinee after oral instructions, and another questionnare was filled in by the dentist after the clinical examination. As 610/o of the examinees belonged to the 30—50 age group, it was concluded that fixed prostheses are most needed by this age group. Molars were missing in most patients, more frequently in the lower than in the upper jaw. This indicated a need for a more efficacious conservative therapy to preserve the function of these teeth. The negligence of patients to take care of their teeth points to the need of improving preventive measures and more frequent control examinations by the primary health care as well as to the need of a better health education of the population.
