Sažetak
The aim of this research is to determine the teachers´ attitudes about key competences for teaching of education for citizenship. The study was conducted using questionnaires (Likert-type scales and closed type questions) among primary school teachers of the Istrian county (N=225) who implement education for citizenship on some of the offered ways. On the basis of empirical data can be concluded that the teachers do not feel competent enough for implementation of the education for citizenship. Those teachers who are professional trained in several ways find that all listed competences required for work in relation to those who are professional trained in one way only. Teachers reported that teaching contents of education for citizenship helped them in achieving the same behaviour toward all students and in achieving the recognition of their mistakes in front of their students as well as the willingness to learning from these errors. Factor 3 “the lack of training teachers to work in this area and poor exchange of experience”, obtained by factor analysis of the obstacles in the implementation of education for citizenship, confirms that the actors of the Croatian educational system of teachers’ initial education in the field of education for citizenship, but also of their professional training, do not give a significant place.
