Flora of the Island of Lopud

Abstract

The report of the flora consists of 427 species and subspecies, 277 genera and 76 families of vascular plants. A great number of species, 407, have now been recorded on the island of Lopud for the first time. Two families Poaceae (57 taxa) and Fabaceae (54 taxa) are presented with the greatest number of species.
Mediterranean (43,07% taxa) and South European (22,95%) floristic elements with the group of wide spread plants (19,91%) are the most widely represented in the flora of the island.
The predominance of therophytes (45,67% taxa) in the spectrum of life forms according to all other facts indicates the Mediterranean character of the flora of the island of Lopud.
The presence of Illyrian-Adriatic plants is significant for the phy- togeographical position of the island of Lopud in the East-Adriatic Province of the Mediterranean region.
