Sažetak
This paper shows the distribution of six waterplant species in the in the alluvial wetlands of the Sava River between Sisak and N. Gradi- ska (Fig 1): Trapa natans L., Stratiotes aloides L., Hydrocharis morsus- ranae L.; Nymphoides peltata (S. G. Gmel.) O. Ktze.; Hottonia palustris L.; Marsilea quadrifolia L. (Fig 2 — 7). The selected species are distributed over different types of wetlands (fig. 8). The oxbows are endangered, because they have been separated from the river and the alluvial wetlands in recent years (Tab. 1) and are threatened by eutrophication from the villages and industrial farming. In the open parts of the alluvial wetlands traditional cattle farming with large unbordered pasture grounds is essential for the specialized waterplants. New waterbodies which were excavated while constructing new dams over the last ten years have been colonized by a large number of waterplant species. Ecological management could make these waters much more important for a variety of alluvial plants and animal species. The research area is rich in characteristic alluvial habitats and should be protected as a Nature Park with the most important parts under special protection.
