Abstract

In potato beetle have been found only few diseases caused by pathogenic microorganisms. Microsporidia of Nosema sp. affect larvae. pupae imagoes of this insect but no epizotics have been observed in our country. During 1973 and 1974 microsporidia were found in only 6-9% of all examined diseased and dead potato beetles. The infection per os with the spores of this microsporidia resulted in 51,4 to 100% mortality in larvae, depending on the age of larvae and concentration of spores. Potato beetle larvae die very often when reared in laboratory, mortality rate is 12,3 to 68,9%. Microorganisms similar to bacteria and rickettsiae have been found in dead larvae. The attempt to transmit some insect viruses to potato beetle have failed. Preparations made on the basis of Bacillus thuringiensis containing all bacterial products producet during growth in a medium are toxic for potato beetle larvae especially younger ones. Larvae are susceptible to - boverin - a preparation made on the basis of fungus Beauveria bassiana Vuill., particularly when mixed whit synthetic pyrethrum insecticides in low doses.
