Sažetak

The paper analyses everyday culture from the aspect of goldsmithery and metalwork design in 19th-century Croatia. Through interdisciplinary research methodology and acquaintance with objects of utility such as sugar bowls, salvers and serving dishes, the authors examine their design in the context of the history of material culture and define the use and purpose of certain items of arts and crafts production. The paper discusses the basic typology of sugar bowls starting from the Baroque, listing examples of a sugar bowl with lid, an Empire style sugar bowl for serving sugar water, and a Biedermeier sugar bowl formed as
a lidded box with a keyhole for locking.
