Sažetak
This paper highlights the importance of early education and
the creation of a stimulating environment for the natural acquisition of a foreign language in kindergarten. It stresses in particular the importance of the role of pre-school teachers, peers and adults, as well as the impact of various games, real life activities, stories, songs, rhymes and the media in relation to young children and the provision of conditions for conducting the process of early language learning which would be as natural as possible (and would resemble
the acquisition of the mother tongue). A situational approach has been applied, or, in other words, a natural process of learning a foreign language in the context of everyday, practical activities. Much before children begin to talk (during the pre-verbal stage), they need to be exposed as far as possible to other people’s speech and to acquire communication and interactive experiences in real life situations. An action study was employed using elements of an
ethnographic approach since this allowed the direct monitoring, consideration and alteration of the existing conditions for encouraging communication in a foreign language.
