Sažetak
23 anthropometrical measures and 4 measures for estimating the capacity for estimating the capacity for speed in 60m sprint were measured in 345 males aged 13 years ± 6 months. The correlations between those two sets of metric instruments were established by means of a canonical correlation analysis.
The canonical analysis indicated a relatively high degree of connection between system of morphological variables and the system of sprint variables. This was manifested in two significant pairs of canonical factors.
The relationship obtained for the first canonical factor is essentially based on fundamental biomechanical laws about the influence of body mass, i. e. ballast mass, on the functional efficiency of the kinetic chain. In this context, certain specific relations were noticed between morphological variables and sprint variables. Typical amongst these is the negative influence of fatty tissue in all body regions on sprinting and similar manifestations. Subcutaneous fatty tissue acts as a ballast mass since it reduces relative strength, i. e. the ratio of the force developed and body weight, which is essential for successful and efficient sprinting. Longitudinal, transverse and circular dimensions have been a moderately negative influence solely on performance of the 10m variable.
