Sažetak

Following Kristin Boyce (2018), who draws attention to Plato's intertext in Ibsen's dialogues, I will analyse how Plato's “book-as-child” metaphor is transposed in Ibsen's Little Eyolf (1894) – how Alfred’s book as Alfred’s child simultaneously makes love relation possible and also becomes an obstacle to it. Starting from Lacanian reading of Plato's Symposium, the article aims to show that parallelism between Ibsen’s object little e and lacanian objet petit a reveals the transition between mourning for the lost object and “the desire we term philo-sophia” (Miller, 1997: 121).
