Sažetak
The subjects were 49 girls and boys, aged 12 years +/- 6 months, to whom Eysenck's Junior EPI was administered, together with 12 motoric tests assessing coordination, balance, speed and explosive power abilities. Also, measurements of height and weight were taken.
The differences between boys and girls were determined using discriminative analysis and univariate analysis of variance, in three domains separately. Also the differences in motoric abilities were determined, after the influence of morphological and personality variables was partialled out, using multivariate analysis of covariance.
Discriminative analysis in the personality domain shows that boys and girls differ significantly. This is in greater part due to higher extraversion in boys, which can be explained in terms of social factors in the small town community in which children live.
Significant differences in height and weight were not found, perhaps due to girls' earlier start with puberty, which allows them to catch up with the boys in these two variables.
The canonical discrimination coefficient for the motoric domain is significant and rather large before and after partialisation. The most important discriminators are coordination and explosive power variables, followed by less important speed variables. In all but a few variables the multiverse test shows significantly better motoric performance in boys than in girls.
Because the discriminative power of the the applied motoric tests was not significantly reduced after height, weight and personality were partialled out, it may be concluded that the mechanisms generating the differences between boys and girls in personality traits and motoric abilities are not the same, at least in 12 years old children.
