Abstract

Before applying any geodetic measuring instrument, especially in the case of highly precise measurements, its functions should be checked including also the automated ones. Stabilisation error of compensator and compensation error (Novaković 1999) are basic errors connected with the function of theodolite compensator. In this paper, the stabilisation error is defined, the methods of its testing in the Laboratory for Measurements and Measuring Techniques at the Faculty of Geodesy in Zagreb are described and the most optimal one suggested to be used. The usage of methods of mathematical statistics makes it possible to check the stability of precision during the testing, and also in computing and analysing the results. Regarding the present situation in the measuring techniques which enables very precise measurements of angles, the results of testing the stabilisation error indicate that this error should not be neglected, especially in the case of trigonometric levelling of highest accuracy.
