Abstract

The paper noticed that the known formulas based on the methods of arithmetic and geometric progression in determining the class intervals gives only one of infinitely many possible solutions. The problem of determination of class intervals by using arithmetic and geometric progression is stated and solved in its most general form, unknown up to date. It is shown that the equal intervals method is not a special method, while it can be interpreted as a special case of the arithmetic or geometric progression method. Furthermore, the relationships between the sequence of class borders and the sequence of class intervals are established in applying the arithmetic and geometric progression method. All theoretical derivations are illustrated with the appropriate numerical examples.
