Sažetak
The forming of an underground gas storage in the exploitation field for underground storage of natural gas "Grubišno Polje" is a unique project in the energy, oil and gas industry. Given that it’ s a specifical targeted field where the initial test of exploitation of reservoir gas must be first carried out and then followed with formation of the gas storage. Therefore, the whole project is planned to be carried out in two phases: original reservoir gas production and the formation of the natural gas storage.
In the first phase of the project, the facilities necessary for the initial production of gas from the original gas reservoir will be constructed and the production itself will be carried out using the existing two gas wells in the field. It is necessary to construct well sites and connecting gas pipelines, gas treatment facilities, electrical power generators, process monitoring with control systems and all the other associated and support facilities. An additional challenge to the realization of this phase is the increased content amount of nitrogen (about 18% vol.) in the reservoir gas.
In the case of positive test production results, followed by decision-making on the construction of underground gas storage, the second phase of the project will be carried out. All the previously constructed facilities would remain in operation, upgraded with the facilities required for operation as the underground gas storage (new working wells with connecting pipelines, additional compressor etc.).
According to the planned operating parameters, UGS Grubišno Polje would be an underground storage of relatively small working volume (about 110 × 106 m3) and relatively large gas withdrawal capacities (up to 100,000 m3/h).
Situations on the extremely dynamic gas market justify the construction of such a storage facility, consequently this project is included on the list of a strategic investment projects with an interest to the Republic of Croatia and the implementation of the first phase of the project is at a full swing.
In February of 2022 the company started with a first phase of the project while test exploitation should take place at the second quarter of 2023, accordingly to the time schedule.
Test exploitation completion should provide additional data necessary to start phase 2 of this project and that’s the construction of the underground gas storage. UGS Grubišno Polje is going to provide additional flexibility to the national storage system.
