Sažetak
The biological removal of nitrogen compounds using microorganisms is a key process in many wastewater treatment plants. Representatives of ammonia-oxidising bacteria and archaea, belonging to genera such as Nitrosococcus, Nitrosomonas, Nitrosopumilus, as well as nitrite-oxidising bacteria such as Nitrococcus, Nitrobacter, Nitrospira, and Nitrospina, have proven to be extremely effective in removing nitrogen compounds. Denitrification in plants for biological wastewater treatment is carried out by genera such as Acinetobacter, Agrobacterium, Bacillus, Flavobacterium. This paper provides an overview of the microorganisms used in the biological treatment of wastewater loaded with nitrogen compounds, including processes such as nitrification, denitrification, “anammox” and “comammox”.
