Abstract

The paper examines the canon law institute of the law of patronage (ius patronatus). The first part of the paper provides an account of the historical context of its origin, proving on the basis of sources and relevant literature that the twelfth century was a period of stormy relations between the Church and the state, and that the aforementioned stormy relations of popes, emperors and kings during the “Renaissance of the twelfth century” led, as a result its demands, until the establishment of the mentioned (compromise) institute. The application of patronage rights in the parish of St. Barbara in Bedekovčina by its patron baron Dr. Ambroz Vranyczany-Dobrinović in the period between 1913 and 1937.
